Fall 2022

Because of our Superheroes…

Back to School Fair

The Back to School Fair took place on August 10th and we saw a huge increase in the number of students receiving school supplies. With the help of our Superhero volunteers, we were all able to power through the intense heat and hand out almost 500 backpacks and 300 pairs of shoes and socks.

Day of Caring

Our annual Day of Caring took place on September 8th with over 120 volunteers coming together to complete 34 projects. All volunteers “wore their capes” as they conquered painting, deck building, yard clean up, and landscaping. Smiles were had by all as the community worked together to help our neighbors.

Bingo Ball

United Way of Mahaska County held its first annual Bingo Ball fundraiser on
September 9th. The night was filled with lots of fun, laughs, a silent auction, and of course, BINGO! Thank you to everyone who came out to played Bingo, supported, and sponsored the event. We can’t wait to see you all again next year!

OUR LOCAL SUPERHEROES!

“The superheroes in our organization disguise themselves as YMCA Board Members, Staff, and other key Volunteers. These “Superheroes” help us with multiple fundraising efforts, ensure the safety and growth of our children, and make key decisions that can impact our entire community.” – Mahaska County YMCA

“Our superheroes are our volunteers, our employees, and our clients. Our staff and volunteers have a desire to make this world a bit better through their dedication and passion toward serving survivors of violence. Our clients on so many occasions become the superheroes to their children despite the circumstances and struggles they may face while searching for safety and a life without violence.” – Family Crisis Center

“Our agency is filled with superheroes – filled with attorneys and support staff who are wearing capes under their dresses and suits.” – Iowa Legal Aid

“The superheroes at Oskaloosa Elementary School are our amazing teachers, support staff, bus drivers, cooks, custodians, Reading Corp tutors, and volunteers who all help to educate the future generation of learners in Oskaloosa!” – Oskaloosa Elementary Reading Corps

“At Crisis Intervention Services, we like to say that anyone who aims to improve the lives of those facing hardships is a superhero. These are people who have dedicated their entire lives towards one cause or another.” – Crisis Intervention Services
